The “Inside Looking Out” compilation tries to mark the singer/songwriter stream in the Israeli music scene and to brush away politics and the “whether/should/is it relevant for an Israeli musician to sing in English?” question. What we want to do, basically, is to turn the spotlight on these talented writers, and to expose them to the local/international audience.
The compilation includes artists from various ages and tries to cover the entire “rainbow” of this genre: Lenses and Amit Erez show the more Folky, innocent side; Rotem Or and Jay walk the Popish, sweet side; Tsuky and Morephlexis touch the Psych end of the genre; Shrugged (Ohad Ezer, formerly of “The Selfish Gene”) and Fond (Roei Zilber, son of Ariel Zilber) show some rock attitude and Omri Levi and Shafrir come from the more melancholic pan; and there is also Hadara who combines Macy Gray’s Funk with Rickie Lee Jones’s Blues.
